2016 winner of the Rosalind Laker Prize for Creative Writing
At a presentation at the University of Reading, this year’s prize was awarded to Luke Blaxland-Kay.
Luke had written an innovative piece, ‘Four-Point Star’, for this competition which the judges rated very highly. Luke has a distinctive style and a gift for storytelling. This is a name to look out for in future if he decides to turn to writing novels.
The prize was presented by Rosalind Laker’s daughter, Susan Keane. On this occasion she was joined by Juliet Burton, who was Rosalind’s agent for many years and they became great friends.
Unah Cader wins the 2015 Rosalind Laker Award for Creative Writing.
The 2015 winner of this award is a particularly charismatic student at The University of Reading. Unah has written a piece which is very modern and current. It is a modern take on traditional children’s stories and is both unexpected and, perhaps, for most readers of this website, a little challenging. Would Rosalind Laker have enjoyed them? We think so. Although a lover of all things historical, Rosalind kept very much up to date with everything that was happening in the Literary World. Unah is as innovative as her appearance and we wish her well for the future.
In presenting the prize Rosalind’s son, Paul Ovstedal, said that the prize continued Rosalind’s enthusiasm for helping new writers.
